Your Guide to the Printing and Graphic Communication Industry

Food for thought . . . this is a presentation I gave about implementing PrintED in the classroom back in 2005. In it I break down the competencies by type and offer some stats about average time allotted to teach each competency.

How do you implement PrintED in the classroom?

I have already added many useful elements that can make this process MUCH easier (see PIAG site).

The problem with PrintED and instructor perception is that it is a bunch of NEW work to do that may conflict with existing state curriculum. Although much state curriculum is developed by education committees and not industry professionals.

Another issue is the level of experience or training available to instructors. PrintED (at least in my area) has been notorious about saying what to do without fundamentally helping to do any of it. That is why I have developed SO many labs and posted them on this site. Please advise people to review the PIAG area so that they do not have to reinvent the wheel.

I have another new booklet that all but meets the Intro to print card in one booklet (96 pages worth). Let me know if you would like to see a draft.

Best of luck;
Paul Davis
Paul foster, I liked the idea you had about making the curriculum electronic. Have you or anyone started this process that we could look at. I am willing to help do some of the work. I have started the PrintEd process, but this is the part that is slowing me down. In my state I have the problem Paul Davis talked about when he said that the Print Ed curriculum conflicts with the state curriculum.

I looked at the info that Paul Davis said he posted to the PIAG site and while there is a lot of info there that will help me and others applying for PrintEd, unless I missed something, the electronic curriculum like you talked about in your presentation was not there.

State Contests

It would be hard for each state to match the national contest because of equipment availability and time. A lot of state contests are only one day long and during this time students have orientation, compete, debriefing and the contest must be score for a awards ceremony the same night.See More
