On August 5, 2009, VATIE (Virginia Association for Technical and Industrial Educators) attendees Susan Caldwell, Bill Burton, Roy McKinnis, Kevin Cherry and Michael Emanuel spent a very special day touring Worth Higgins & Associates and Graphics Gallery. Thanks to Susan Higgins and Steve Samuel for hosting our instructors. We learned about UV printing, perls, and novel ways of printing unusual substrates for unusual applications.

Especially valuable was learning about the types of exciting jobs this changing industry offers, as well as the skill sets needed by students interested in pursuing careers in graphic communications.

Ambassadors for Print & Graphics hosted a lunch at Worth Higgins & Associates for those attending.

Please consider attending this valuable event next year, and thanks to Bill Burton for organizing such a special day!

From Paul Vadeboncoeur, a work around so you can show You Tube videos in your classroom:

I found a way to watch You Tube Videos bypassing school blocked filters.

www.yourtube.us

This takes you to a separate web site where you can enter You Tube in the browse field and it will bypass filters.
That way we can show students "viable and appropriate" You Tube videos.
(at least it works until they block this site, which will probably happen as soon as they find out about it.)

I noticed that, but, as they say in the PR world, even bad publicity is good publicity, and this was definitely good. I'm especially heartened to hear that your featured students are hearing buzz back at their schools. May your numbers go up!!!

Thanks, I think they did a pretty good job. They did miss up indicating the information about being PrintED certified, but other than that a good job. All the students who were featured were very exited about their part. They indicated there was a lot of buzz at their schools.

State Contests

It would be hard for each state to match the national contest because of equipment availability and time. A lot of state contests are only one day long and during this time students have orientation, compete, debriefing and the contest must be score for a awards ceremony the same night.See More
