What do you do in the Graphic Communications Industry?
I run Squeegeeville.com, a website and studio that provides educational programs and printing services to a range of commercial and fine art clients. I have written a book, 'Screenprinting Today, the Basics', used by many individuals and schools as a training text for screenprinting. I write a monthly column 'Shop Talk' for Screenprinting Magazine, and promote the use and growth of screenprinting through demonstrations and workshops. We also run an equipment manufacturing and sales company, TMI Screenprinting Equipment, which produces innovative large format parallel lift presses, exposing systems, and UV dryers.
Explain a bit about yourself.
I came up through screenprinting as an apprentice, eventually owning a large graphic screenprinting company. I have watched the transformation of the industry from analog processes to digital, and remain fascinated by what the oldest printing technology - long considered 'dead' and marginal by most - can give back to society. From cutting edge technology - solar cells, hydrogen fuel cells, electronics, nano technologies - all which use screenprinting - to the 'aha!' spark that creative people get when they pull their first print on a simple t-shirt or poster, and realize - I can DO THIS! Screen printing should be taught in every highschool and community centre in the country - it is cheap and simple, and teaches how an idea or design makes it's way from a computer to a product. That's powerful stuff. I try to get that information out there.

State Contests

It would be hard for each state to match the national contest because of equipment availability and time. A lot of state contests are only one day long and during this time students have orientation, compete, debriefing and the contest must be score for a awards ceremony the same night.See More
