Texas Graphic Arts Teachers - Student contest announcment

Att: Texas Art Teachers:

Announcing The Great Texas Rock Poster Contest

On behalf of the American Poster Institute, Austin’s Serie Project, contest sponsors, and the upcoming Flatstock 24 Poster Exhibition taking place at SXSW in Austin Mar.18-20, I would like to invite you and your students to take part
in a special poster contest aimed at young artists who like mixing music and
art and printmaking. It’s fun, it’s easy, and your students and your class can
win some incredible screenprinting and graphics related prizes donated by our
sponsors and supporters.

The Great Texas Rock Poster Contest wants to encourage interest and excellence in poster design and screenprinting. We have restricted entry to Texas schools due to logistics and time elements, so to schools and
students outside the area who would like to enter and receive this, our
apologies. If there is a good response to the contest, we may look at expanding
it in conjunction with upcoming Flatstock poster exhibits in Seattle, Chicago,
and Europe.

Back to the contest: Entry is simple, through the website http://www.serieproject.org/texaspostercontest Complete rules and guidelines are there, and you can see entries as they are
received and posted.

Students need to submit two designs they think would make the ultimate Flatstock poster. Other than some wording which needs to be included, the design is totally up to the student. We will have a jury of Texas
based poster designers –some of the top names in the biz!- pick a winner.
Coronado Studios in Austin will then work with the student to professionally
screenprint the poster, and it will be featured at Flatstock 24.

The fun starts after the contest – If you love screenprinting, we are going to give the winners’ schools a nice haul of screenprinting supplies thanks to our very generous sponsors – everything you
need to get printing posters in the classroom, or add to what you have. From
books to squeegees, frames, inks, and everything in between.

Please pass this info along to other Texas based art teachers who might be interested. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Kind regards,

Andy MacDougall, on behalf of the Contest Sponsors and Supporters
